1. 2.       What’s the Greater Philadelphia Basketball Officials Assoc? GPBOA

1. An Organization for the Recruitment, Training and Assigning of Officials to Games

                                                               i.      New Officials Clinic –Twice a year (Fall & Spring)

                                                             ii.      Camps – June @ Temple in conjunction w/ the Sonny Hill League

                                                           iii.      Continuing training programs in conjunction w/ IAABO

                                                            iv.      No officers, board members

                                                              v.      Membership only requires willingness to want to work game assignments under the GPBOA umbrella and payment of any assessments.

2. No dues to be a member or to receive game assignments

                                                               i.      Assessment Fee $2/game

                                                             ii.      Paid twice a year for assigned games from Sept 1 through February 28th and March 1st through August 31st

                                                           iii.      Assessment is due at the end of each season – Check payable to “GPBOA” and mailed to me.

                                                            iv.      If you don’t receive any games, no assessment owe: only pay for games you work (# based on your availability, my perception of your abilities, like or dislike for you, etc

                                                              v.      Defray cost for websites and cost that I have assumed

3.       How do you get games?

1. Games Are Assigned by Website

                                                               i.      Phase-In process. The majority of games will be assigned by this means. Find some means to receive your game assignments, if you do not have a computer. I.e. library, family member

                                                             ii.      If you have not done so, you need to get on the system and become acquainted with it. Suggest that you acquaint yourself w/ the GPBOA site too.

2. Review Site and how to use it.

                                                               i.      Signing in

1.        Sign-on Id  (first initial of first name, full last name)

2.       Password generic password “TGPOA” case sensitive – Change it to something new

3.       Update Personal info – Keep it updated all info

4.       Availability – keep it updated

a.       How to close the dates on the system?

b.       Text Box – specific time limitations on a particular day. i.e. Aft 4pm, before 4pm,etc

c.       Expectation if you show open, you should be able to take the assignment. That means keep your availability updated.

5.       Accepting and Turning back games on system

a.       Initial Assignment

                                                                                                                                       i.      You receive an email whenever there has been a change to your game, time, date, partner, location, and teams.

                                                                                                                                     ii.      Hope to have games onsite and assigned by Nov 1

                                                                                                                                   iii.      You’ll have until Nov 5 to Accept or Turnback

                                                                                                                                    iv.      After Nov will reassign full schedule

                                                                                                                                      v.      Do not sit on the games until Nov 5 go in and accept or turnback.                                                                                                                                    vi.     

                                                                                                                                  vii.      Go on and accept or turnback games

b.       Handling turnbacks after initially accepting a game

                                                                                                                                       i.      > 72 hrs

c.       Handling reassignments

                                                                                                                                       i.      Via the web respond w/in 24 hrs to accept or turnback

                                                                                                                                     ii.      < Than 5 days phone calls. However, I will be looking of your availability

d.       Referee check w/ your partners at all levels at least 72 hrs before the game.

                                                                                                                                       i.      If no response 72hrs before game time, contact me and the game will be reassigned.

                                                                                                                                     ii.      1- Man games, conf w/ me via email 72 hrs before the game.

4.             Review fee schedule

a.                   Germantown Friends (Var $65, JV $55, 9th $40, MS $37, 1-man $35

b.                   PPSCAA -Charter Schools (Var $45, MS $30)

                                             i.                        New agreement, I will pay you.

                                           ii.                        Weekly via check from me-Mailed Monday for the previous weeks games.

                                         iii.                        More bookkeeping by me, but league want to levitate this task from their person.

c.                   Abington Friends-Steve Magill, turnbacks contact Steve

d.                   Sonny Hill –Bernie Orr

e.                   Positive Image – Dana Garner

f.                   AAU Tournaments

5.             Game Problems i.e fights, technical, partner no shows, etc

a.                   Phone call v/m 215-499-2290 brief description of situation

b.                   Please f/u w/ completing the disqualification/technical foul game report on-line.

c.                   If you do the game by-yourself.

6.             Communication

a.                   Emails are best for unimportant stuff – I get several phone calls for mundane questions on my cell. I’ll generally check my email twice a day and will reply. Please include your name in your email as I get to many to spend time deciphering whose who.

b.                   Phone calls for important stuff

                                             i.                        Officials Discussion Board –Rules/mechanics questions, share weird plays,

                                           ii.                        Anyone can post a play and/or post a response or answer

1. Phase-in by 2005 for all winter games
