Welcome The GPBOA is Philadelphia's largest independent organization of basketball officials. We serve several summer leagues and AAU tournaments during the spring and summer months. As well as The Philadelphia Charter School League and several private schools in the winter.
THE GPBOA is intent on providing qualified and trained basketball officials. We have one of the most extensive educational and training programs in the Greater Philadelphia area. We hold both our own officials camp and clinics. For more information on our camps, clinics or other local and national camps, please go to the Camps and Clinics page Camps/Clinic.
To All Staff ALL OFFICIALS SHOULD BE WEARING THE GREY SHIRT FOR ALL GAMES. Shorts are ok except school games during the winter. New Federation Rules are available.
Camp and Clinic Info is updated
Video I have added a new page with links to videos on basketball plays. This includes links to the NCAA website which includes different plays on video. I believe video is an excellent tool to learn from. If you come across any video on the internet that you believe is worthwhile to add, send me the link webmaster@gpboa.org.

Game AssignmentsTHE GPBOA has over five hundred games during the year. With over 200 officials and over 1,000 assignments we need a more cost-effective and time efficient way to manage its officials and game assignments. Within the next year, we will begin to implement an internet based assigning web site. We have contracted with The Arbiter.Net and a web site has been designed for our organization's needs. Officials will be able to update their personal information, availability, and receive notice of game assignments by email. In addition, email will be used to communicate game changes or updates. We will phase-in this method over the next year to allow for a successful transition period for those officials who do not have an available means to access email or the internet on a regular basis. For Those officials with internet and email access available to them now, you will begin to receive your assignments via this for format starting May 12. Our goal is to have the majority of our members receiving games via this means by this winter and 100% compliance by next spring. Membership/Dues Each official will be assessed a $2/game fee. The fee will cover all games they accept and/or work during our assigning year. This will include any missed assignments. The need for this assessment is to help defray the cost of both our web site and the assigning web service The Arbiter . In addition, to some incidental cost that I have absorbed over the last few years. Your assessment fee will be due by March 15 covering games from September 1 through February 28 and by September 15 covering games from March 1st through August 31st. Therefore you only pay for the number of games you accept and work versus a fixed fee for all officials. With this type of system, you only pay for the number of games you are available to work and assigned. If your availability only affords you to work a minimal number of games, then you only pay for that number. If it affords you to work more, then you pay a proportional fee based on the total number of games you are assigned or worked.
